Apparition- the manifestation of a ghost/spirit or entity.

Disembodied voice- this very similar to an evp except for it can be heard by your ears with no cause for the voice.

Entity- a disembodied being . This can used to describe a ghost, spirit, or something more negative in nature.

EMF- electromagnetic field. This is the field of energy given off by many cause. This can be natural to electricity.  The earth has its own emf field. This is what makes a compass point north and helps birds fly north and south for the seasons. Electricity also gives off an emf field. If a home as substandard unshielded wiring, the emf meter is useless on an investigation. Appliances and electronics will also set off an emf meter. Old style tube tv’s , microwave ovens, and florescent lights can be causes for high emf fields. The paranormal theory says a ghost/ spirit has its own emf field.

EVP- Electronic voice phenonom. This is the disembodied voice  not heard by the ear but imprinted  on a audio device( digital or tape recorder or camcorder audio track) . You hear these during play back. An evp does not prove a haunting. It supports the possibility of activity. You need to combine this with all the evidence.

Ghost- this is a generic term for a earth bound spirit or an entity.  These can be heard or seen, intelligent or some say a residual haunt.

Haunting or haunted- this  describes the condition of a residence or area being occupied by a spirit or entity. This can be either and intelligent or residual haunt

Orbs- this is just simply a ball of energy. Some see this as proof off a spirit or haunting. Nothing has been proved to link orbs to the paranormal. The other orb is the reflection of light on a floating object like bugs, dust, or moisture. A digital camera will I catch this reflection as a ball of light. Some mistake this as evidence of paranormal. We don’t use orbs as evidence because there’s no proof except you have a light on your film or picture.

Types of haunts

Residual- this is an imprint of a happening or scene in time. It plays over and over. Its like watching a movie, you can watch it over and over and  it’s the same.  The imprint is not aware of you or the surroundings. Its going about its business like it was in its time.  We at Champaign County Paranormal don’t really consider this a haunting. Its like energy trapped in time. We consider it a force of nature. Its paranormal but at the same time, you can’t interact with it or get rid of it.  Homes where a residual haunt is taking place have been torn down. A new home is built on the spot only to find the residual ”haunt” is still there.

Intelligent- This type can interact with the environment, and or people. Its more or less a person without a body.

Spirt- the life force/ engergy of a living being. Can also be a term used for a ghost.
